All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/nj/njfiles.htm ************************************************ Will and Inventory Amos Thatcher 1859J Hunterdon 1798 Engrossed & Probated Recorded in Liber 31 of Wills, folio 453 Know all men by these presents that I Amos Thatcher of the Township of Amwell County of Hunterdon and State of New Jersey being very weak and infirm in Body, but of perfect mind and Memory, Thanks be to God, Therefore calling to mind the mortality of the Body and knowing that it is appointed all men once for ty dye, do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament That is to say principally and first of all. I give and commend my soul into the hands of God that give it And for my body, I recommend it to the Earth, be buryed in a christian manner at the discretion of my Executors hereafter to be named; nothing doubting but at general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God. And so touching such Worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to Bless me with in this life I give, devise, and dispose of the same in the following manner and form.Imprimis. It is my Will and I do order, that in the first place all my just Debts and funeral Charges be paid and stasifyed.Item I give and bequeath unto my son Daniel Thatcher my plantation whereon I know dwell containing two hundred fourteen acres and a half of land, situate in the township aforesaid bounded by lands of John Severns and others, as do more plain appear in my Deeds. I do hereby give the same to Daniel my son his Heirs and Assigns forever, only him paying the children orphans of son Amos deceased, the just & full sum of one hundred & Fifty pounds good and lawfull Money of the state aforesaid, to be equally paid among them when they shall arrive to proper age, the same Legacies I do hereby charge to my abovesaid plantation.Item I give and bequeath to my son Job Thatcher his Heirs and Assigns the plantation whereon my said son no dwells, situate in the Township of Alexandria County and State before mentioned containing an hundred and thirty Acres as will clearly appear by my Deed for the same this is his share of my estate.Item I give and bequeath unto my Daughters Lydia, Uremia, Azobah and Martha all my personal estate that is to say all my Goods, Chattles, Moneys indoors and out of Doors to be equally divided Between my four said daughters.Item I give and bequeath to they Heirs of my Son Joseph the just and full sum of five shillings for theirs shares to be paid by my Executors hereafter to be mentioned.Item I do hereby order that my daughter Martha now a Widow to have two rooms in my own dwelling house or Daniels house during widowhood, together with fire wood, and a garden spot, and keeping of a Cow. This I charge to my homestead plantation that I have willed to my son Daniel.Item I do hereby constitute and ordain my trusty friend Thomas Kitchen, & my Son Daniel Thatcher my true and lawful executors of this my last Will and Testament. And I do hereby utterly disallow, revoke & disannul all & every other form of Testaments, Wills, Legacies and Executors, by me in any wise before this time Named Willed or bequeathed, Ratifying and confirming this to my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the twenty fourth day of February Anno Domini one thousand seven hundred and Eighty seven Amos Thatcher (mark) Signed Sealed Published Pranced & Delivered in the presence of Franklin Gordon Charles Sergent Samuel Adams Hunterdon County: Charles Sergent one of the witnesses to the before written will, being duly sworn on the Holy Evangelists of almighty God, did depose and say that he saw Amos Thatcher, the Testatr therein named sign and seal the same, and heard him publish pronounce & declare the before writing to be his last Will & Testament; and that at the doing thereof the said Testator was of sound & disposing mind & memory as far as this deponent knows, and as he verily believes; and that Franklin Gordon & Samuel Adams, the other subscribing Evidences were present at the same time, and signed their names as Witnesses to t he said Will together with this Deponent, in he presence of the said testator. Charles Sergent Sworn at Flemington this 7th Day of February A.D. 1798 before me Jacob Benjamin Surrogate Hunterdon County: Thomas Kitchen and Daniel Thatcher Executors in the before written Testament named being duly sworn on the Holy Evangelists of Almighty God, did severally depose & say, that the before written Instrument contains the true last Will & Testament of Amos Thatcher the Testator therein named as far as they or either of them know and as they verily believe, and that they will well & truly perform the same by paying first the debts of the sd. deceasd. and then the Legacies in the said Testament specified, so far as the Goods Chattels & Credits of the said deceased can thereunto extend; & that they will make & exhibit into the Prerogative offices at Trenton a true and perfect Inventory of all & singular the Goods Chattels & Credits of the said deceased that have or shall come to their knowledge or Possession or to the Possession of any persons or person for their use, and render a just & true account when thereunto lawfully required Thomas Kitchin Daniel Thatcher Sworn at Flemington this 7th Day of February AD: 1798 before me Jacob Benjamin Surrogate A true and perfect Inventory of all and singular the Goods and Chattels moveables and personal Estate of Amos Thatcher late of the township of Amwell in the Counter of Hunterdon Deceasd made by us whose names are hereunto subscribed taken on the thirtieth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand Seven hundred and ninety eight.Articles appraised purse and waring apparel 4.15.6 one mare 18.0.0 Horned cattle 26.15.0 Sheep 2.5.0 farmers utensils 7.7.0 beds and bedding 33.16 pewter 4.5.6 joiners tools 2.15 Resminder of the household furniture 19.12.10 Lumber and a cupboard 4.15.9 Rye 5.0.0 Buckwheat 0.19.6 Oats 3.17.6 Corn 1.0.0 flax and flaxseed 0.15.0 hay 9.0.0 debts 64.14.7 Total amount 210.14.2 other debts supposed to beparate 0.9.6 Appraisd by us the day and year above written Cornelius Lake Charles Sergent Hunterdon County: Cornelius Lake and Charles Sergent the appraisers of the within Inventory, being duly sworn according to Law, did severally declare that the Goods Chattels & credits in the said Inventory set down & specified were by them appraised according to their just & true respective rates & values after the best of their judgment and understanding; and that they appraised all things that were brought to their view for appraisement.
