Richard Haines William Gano Josiah Ellis July 8, 1769 Richard Holcomb one of the Executors in the within Testament named has been duly affirmed did declare that the within Instrument contains the true last will and Testament of Saml Holcomb the Testator therein named and Saml Holcomb the other Exr. sd Testament named being duly sworn did depose that the within Instrument the last will & testament of the Testator therein named and that they will well & truly hereby perform the same by paying first the Debts and then the legacies in the sd. testament --- specified so far as the Goods Chattles & Credits of the sd. decd. can thereunto extend & that they will make & Exhibit into the Prerogative Office at Burlington a true & perfect Inventory of all & singular the Goods Chattles & Credits that have or shall come to their knowledge or possession or the possession of any other person or persons for their use for them to render a just and true account when thereunto --- Lawfully required Richard Holcombe Samuel Holcombe Sworn before me --- --- 1769 Wm. Taylor Surrogate In the Name of God Amen. I Samuel Holcomb of the Township of Amwell and County of Hunterdon and Western Division of the Province of New Jersey Yeoman being somewhat indisposed but of Sound disposing mind and memory praised be the Lord therefor, do make and Ordain this my Last Will an Testament in manner and form following. that is to say first I recommend my Soul to Almighty God that gave it and my Body to be committed to the Earth in decent and Christian like manner according to the discretion of my Execrs herein after named, Item. I give and bequeath unto my Well beloved Wife Eleanor a Bedstead, Feather Bed, Bolster, two Pillows, four Pillow Cases, four pair sheets, two Blankets, two Coverlids, and a set of Curtins, which she shall choose, a Bilsted Cupboard, which is now standing in the East Room, a Round Walnut Table Six pewter plates, two pewter dishes, and all the Tea Ware whatsoever one Iron pot and Trammel a pewter Tankard, I also give unto my said Wife the Sum of twelve pounds Proc Yearly and every Year during the time she continues my Widow to be paid unto her by my Son Richard and Thomas, and that she have during the said Term One Room in the Dwelling house which she shall choose together with the use of the Cellar and Kitchen, I also give unto my said Wife Six Chairs which she shall Choose, and a Riding Mare Saddle and Bridle and a Cow which she shall choose. And that my Sons Richard and Thomas Take care of and keep the said Mare and Cow on the Plantation and their own proper cost and charge, without any trouble or cost to my said Wife and cut and haull for her all her fire wood and find for her all other neccessarys --- &c. during the time she continues my widow, I also give unto may said Wife thirty pounds of good Flax from the Swingle, all which I give unto my said Wife in full for her Right of Dower. Item, I give and Bequeath unto my Eldest Son John the sum of Five pounds Proc. to be paid by my Executors herein after named out of my personal Estate. Item I give and bequeath unto my Grandson Samuel son of my son John the Sum of Ten pounds Proc. to be paid by said Executors. Item I ive unto my second Son Jacob the sum of Five pounds Proc. Item I give and bequeath unto my Third Son Samuel the house he now live in together with the fifteen Acres of Land thereunto belonging which I Purchased of Caleb Farley to him his heirs and assigns for ever. Item I give and bequeath unto my fourth son George, Five Acres of Land which I purchased of John Smith which is now in the possession of William Muirhead who rents the same together with all the Improvements thereon and I also give unto my said Son George thirty Acres of Land Adjoining the said five Acres being part of a Tract of One hundred Acres of Land which I purchased of Richard Smith of Burlington all which I give unto my said Son George his Heirs and Assigns forever Item I give and bequeath unto my Fifth Son Elijah the remaining part of the above mentioned One hundred Acres of Land which I purchased of Richard Smith of Burlington to him his heirs and assigns forever, Item the home place whereon I now live I give and bequeath unto my Sixth and Seventh Sons Richard and Thomas to be equally Divided between them acre for acre, by the Executors of whom --- they shall see proper to Assist them in the said Division Reserving the Building for Thomas, and Thomas when he shall arrive to the Age of Twenty Two Year to pay his Brother Richard the Sum of Thirty Pounds Proc in Lieu thereof, all which I give to them and their Heirs Male forever, and for want of lawfull Male Heirs of my Sons Richard and Thomas, then my next Male --- and their Male --- forever I also give and Bequeath unto my said sons Richard and Thomas jointly between them Four Milch Cows and Four Horses or horse --- which they shall choose together with two Waggons Ploughs and all the Tackling, all which I give unto my said sons Richard and Thomas provided they pay unto and provide for their Mother as above set forth. Item I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Phebe now wife of Henry Lott the Sum of Forty Pounds Proc. Item I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Elizabeth the Sum of One hundred pounds Proc to be paid to her when she shall arrive to the age of twenty Years. but if she should Marry before she shall arrive to that age without the Consent of my Executors, then I give unto my said Daughter Elizabeth but the sum of Seventy Pounds Lastly my Will is and I order that all the above Legacys be paid within One year after my Decease except my Daughter Elizabeth and that to be paid as above set forth and that all the said Legacys be paid out of my personal Estate and when the above Legacys are paid or secured to be paid in the hands of my Executors then all the rest and Residue of my Estate to be equally Divided between my Widow and Children Share and Share alike, And I do hereby appoint and Constitute my Trusty and Well beloved Brother Richard Holcomb and my Son Samuel Holcomb joynt Executors of this my last will and Testament Revoking and Making void all former Will and Wills by me heretofore made Ratifying and confirming this and no other to my last Will and Testament. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this Eighth day of July in the Year of our Lord one thousand Seven hundred and Sixty Nine Samuel Holcomb Seald and Delivrd in the presence of Richard Haines WIlliam Gano Josiah Ellis I Samuel Holcomb of Amwell in the County of Hunterdon &c. do this Sixteenth Day of July in the Year of our Lord One thousand Seven hundred and Sixty Nine made and Ordain and Publish this my Codicil to my last Will and Testament in manner following (that is to say) Whereas I have in my last Will given and bequeath'd to my Sixth and Seventh Sons Richard and Thomas all my Homestead Plantation to be equally divided between them Acre for Acre to them and heirs, Heirs Male and for want of Such Male Heirs, then to my Heirs and so forever.
