Abraham Webb, of Perth Amboy, New Jersey Source: New Jersey State Archives Book L of Wills, 13083-13805L Transcribed by Don Howard, June 5, 2005 [Page 1] I, Abraham Webb of the City & Township of Perth Amboy, in the county of Middlesex and State of New Jersey, being of sound and dispo- sing mind and memory (for which blessing I thank my God the giver of all good) do make and publish, this my last will and testament, on this eighteenth day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty seven. I It is my will and I do order all my just debts and funeral expenses to be duly paid and satisfied, as soon as conveniently may be after my death. II I give to the Rector, Wardens and Vestrymen of Saint Peters Church at Perth Amboy, the sum of Three Hundred dollars. I am not certain that I have stated above the true corporate name, but whether I have or not, I do not mean that this Legacy shall fail, by reason of any mistake in the name of the Legatees. III I give, devise and bequeath to my wife Abbe the house and lot situated in the city of Perth Amboy, where I now live, to have an enjoy the same so long as she continues to be my widow. IV I give, devise and bequeath the remainder of my said house and upon the determination of my wife’s estate therein, to the five children of my deceased brother Jacob Webb, that is to say, Eliza Hager wife of John D. Hager, Abraham, John, Porter & Precilla of John Gill, share and share alike, to each of them, their and each of their heirs and assigns forever. If my wife die in my life time, then I give, devise and bequeath my said house and lot to the said children of my said brother Jacob, in equal portions, to them their heirs and assigns forever. V I order and direct my Executors, to sell and make good convey- ances of the other real estate whereof I may die seized, whether in possession, remainder or reversion or otherwise, in such way and manner and at such time or times, as they may from time to time think discreet & the proceeds of sale or sales to be consid- ered and treated, as part of the residuum of my estate hereinafter disposed of. VI I order and direct my Executors to loan and place the residue, re- [Page 2] mainder & residuum of my estate, out at interest upon Bond and Mortgage and to make re-investments thereof from time to time, as may become necessary and to pay interest thereof in manner following, that is to say 1 To pay my said wife during her natural life, or as long as she continues to be my widow, the one third part of said interest. 2 To pay to my sister Sally during her natural life, another one third part of said interest. 3 To pay to my sister Betsy during her natural life, the remaining third part of said interest. VII I further will and direct that upon the respective deaths of my wife and my said two sisters, that one third of the said residuum shall be paid, in equal shares and parts, to the said children of my deceased brother Jacob, to have the to them respectively their Executors, adminis- trators and assigns forever. If my wife die in my life time, or if either or both of my said sisters die in my life time, I, in those cases further direct, that said residuum shall go to the said children of my said brother Jacob, in equal shares. VIII I further will and direct that the devises and bequests, legacies and gifts, so made to the children of said Jacob Webb shall in no event laps, but in the event of their deaths or the deaths of any one or more of them, in my life time, their respective real and personal representatives, shall have & enjoy such share of my said estate, as the said children would have received if they had survived me, to have the same in fee forever. IX I now - - - - - constitute and appoint my wife Abbe and my friend William Thomas to be the Executors of this my last will & testament, & I revoke all wills by me heretofore made. In testimony whereof I have hereto set my hands seal this day & year first above written.
