If you are coming from the west, a granite marker will be on your left-hand side. It reads: Ye Olde Robbins Burial Place 1695 erected 1938 by James and C. Palmer West great-grandsons of Joseph and Elizabeth Robbins and George and Charlotte Robbins Sproul Also known as Covill Hill Cemetery in the late 1800s & early 1900s. - Bill Malkin Note: ________ will indicate words which were not readable. Also, the spelling used will be that on the stones; it appears to be somewhat eccentric, in that in two side-by-side stones, what appears to be husband and wife has the first name spelled one way on the husband's stone, and differently on the wife's. 1. In the eastern portion I notice quite a number of gravestones of persons of the neighborhood, not connected in any way with the Robbins family. By whose permission they have been buried there I cannot say. It is said that in the northeast corner are the graves of a number of paupers. The following list comprises all the gravestones bearing the name Robbins, beginning at the west side of the yard and running from north to south; Also all those of other names connected with that family. FIRST ROW "In memory of Samuel Robbins, who departed this life Sept 2d 1867, aged 78 years" "In memory of Elizabeth, wife of Joseph Robbins, who died Dec 28th 1861, in the 72 year of her age" "In memory of Joseph Robbins, who died April 9, 1881, aged 93 years, 5 mos & 2 days" The graves of Joseph and Elizabeth Robbins are surrounded by a substantial iron fence. Following these are the empty graves of their son Elisha Robbins and his family who have recently been removed to the Methodist Cemetery at Allentown. In memory of John King Robins, son of Moses Robins, who departed this life October 10th 1790, aged 45 years" SECOND ROW "In memory of William H. son of George H. & Jane Robbins, who died Aug 26th 1864, aged 22 years, 10 months & 18 days" "In memory of Charles Thomas, Sen., who died Oct 1st 1852 aged 70 years, 6 months & 15 days" "In memory of Margaret, wife of Charles Thomas Sen., who died Feb. 26th 1850, aged 69 years, 4 months & 2 days" Following the above is a field stone on which are scratched only the initials "M R" "In memory of Eliza, wife of Aaron Robbins, died Dec 9th, 1840, in the 41st year of her age" "Ann I, wife of John Robbins, died 10th month 3rd 1830, aged 73 years & 8 days" "John Robbins died 3rd month 13th 1837, aged 85 years, 8 months & 7 days" These two last named stones are of the regulation Quaker pattern THIRD ROW "Mary daughter of Randal & Abigal Robbins, died Jan 26th 1860 in the 83 year of her age" "In memory of Randal Robbins, who died Nov 9th 1851, aged 69 years, 11 months & 4 days" "In memory of George Robbins, who died April 24th 1857, in the 85th year of his age" " In memory of Rebecca, wife of George Robbins, who died Dec 9th 1853 in the 75th year of her age" "In memory of Jacob F., son of George & Rebecca Robbins, who died Sept 6th 1848, in the 29th year of his age" "In memory of George H., son of George & Rebecca Robbins, who died July 10th 1848, in the 29th year of his age" Here occurs another field stone, marked "R B" indicating the grave of Rebecca, wife of Thomas Blake, and daughter of Randal and Abigail Robbins "In memory of Charlotte, daughter of George & Rebecca Robbins, who died March 27 1822, in the 8th year of her age" "In memory of Rebecca, daughter of George & Rebecca Robbins, who died July 28th 1817, in the 18th year of her age" "In memory of Randal, son of George & Rebecca Robbins, who died Nov 18th 1818, in the 17th year of his age" "In memory of Randal Robbins, who was born May 27th 1759, departed this life April 19th 1798, aged 58 years, 10 months and 22 days" The next grave is that of Abigail, the first wife of Randal Robbins above mentioned, marked by a field stone upon which are her initials "A R" "Sacred to the memory of Abigail, the affectionate wife of Aaron Schuyler, who fell asleep in the arms of Jesus, Sept 1st 1812, aged 32 years, 7 months and 7 days" "Sacred to the memory of Aaron Schuyler, who departed this life August 27th 1847, aged 67 years, 7 months and 5 days" "In memory of Charles R. About the middle of the row is a field stone, marked 'M R, 1723'. It was here near the center of the yard that the earliest interments were made, for near by is the oldest stone on the premises, inscribed as follows, 'Deborah Lincon, AGED 3Y, 4M, MAY 15 1720'. These two last named are surrounded by numerous graves marked with field stones but there are no other stones belonging to the Robbins family having inscriptions in this yard and no others bearing inscriptions of any sort in its western half." _______________________________________ A fourth reading of this site.
