This Indenture made this third day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety, between Samuel Harvey, Jr., son of Robert, deceased, of the Township of Shrewsbury in the County of Monmouth and State of New Jersey, of the one part, and Joshua Gifford, Jr. of the same place aforesaid, of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Samuel Harvey and his wife Lydia Harvey for and in consideration of the sum of three hundred and twenty eight pounds Proclamation money of said state to him in hand paid by the said Joshua Gifford, receipt whereof I hereby acknowledge, and the said Joshua Gifford thereof discharged, hath granted, bargained, sold, released, assured, conveyed and confirmed and by these presents doth grant, bargain, sell, release, assure, convey and confirm unto the said Joshua Gifford, his heirs and assigns, the following plantation whereon the said Samuel Harvey now lives, which was conveyed to him by a deed of sale from Thomas Cook, bearing date the twentieth day of March, 1787. Part of said plantation was conveyed to said Thomas Cook by the last will of his deceased father, Ebeneser Cook , and by a deed from David Knott dated the first day of December, one thousand seven hundred and sixty one, and also by another deed of sale from his brother William Cook, a reference being had to the said deed from Thomas Cook to the present grantor, Samuel Harvey, will show all the butts and boundaries of this within granted plantation. It does boundeth South on Manasquan River and Easterly on John Johnston and Westerly on a forty acre lot formerly sold out of the old survey, the other two lots that were conveyed by David Knott to Thomas Cook and William Cook is the boundaries and points of compass and number of chains particularly described in the deeds from said David Knott to the above said Thomas and William Cook, being all the lands sold by Thomas Cook to Samuel Harvey, bearing date as above, the which deed and the two deeds from David Knott to Thomas And William Cook and the deed from Joseph Lawrence to Ebenezer Cook is all four of the said deeds delivered to said Joshua Gifford to show the said butts and boundaries of said plantation now conveyed by these presents by the said Samuel Harvey to said Joshua Gifford. Together with all the houses, barns, orchards, meadows, orchards, fields, fences, woods, under woods, and all other of the privileges and appurtenances whatsoever to the same belonging or in any manner of ways appertaining. To have and to hold the aforesaid tracts of land and meadow with all and every of their privileges and appurtenances unto the said Joshua Gifford, his heirs and assigns for to the only use, benefit, and behoof of him the said Joshua Gifford his heirs and assigns forever. And the said Samuel Harvey for himself and his heirs doth covenant and agree to and with the said Joshua Gifford his heirs and assigns that he hath good right to grant, bargain, and sell, convey all and every of the premises with the appurtenances in manner and form as aforesaid and the same in the quiet and peaceable possession and seizen of him the said Joshua Gifford his heirs and assigns against the just, right, lawful claim of all persons or demands whatsoever, will forever hereafter warrant and defend the same as I the said Samuel Harvey, being fully seized of the premises and having lawful authority to grant, bargain, and sell the same. In witness whereof we the said Samuel Harvey and Lydia Harvey have hereunto set our hands and seals the day and year first above written, 1790 ~ NOTE: Ordinarily there is a signature line here and the list of those present and then the acknowledgment taken by a commissioner or judge.
