From: Monmouth County Archives 125 Symmes Drive Manalapan, NJ 07726 Deed Book X, page 480 Andrew Bell to David Harvey & Britton Riddle, 5 Oct 1814 Deed Poll ~ This Indenture made the fifth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fourteen between Andrew Bell of Perth Amboy of the one part and David Harvey and Britton Riddle , both of the Township of Howell in the County of Monmouth and Eastern division of the State of New Jersey of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Andrew Bell for and in consideration of the sum of seventy five dollars to him in hand paid by the said David Harvey and Britton Riddle, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath granted, bargained, & sold and by these presents doth grant, bargain, sell, release, enfeoff, convey and confirm unto the said David Harvey and Britton Riddle, their heirs and assigns forever all that tract of land situate, lying, and being between Manasquan and Shark Rivers in the Township of Howell in the County of Monmouth and Eastern division of the State of New Jersey. Beginning at a pine sapling, about six inches through, marked on four sides with a blaze and one notch under each blaze, standing at the head of a small branch that runs into Shark River about half a chain Eastward of road esteemed to be three quarters of a mile Northerly from Stephen Harvey’s dwelling house, thence (1) North seventy one degrees East forty chains, thence (2) South 21 degrees East thirteen chains, thence (3) South seventy one degrees West thirty eight chains and twenty links, thence (4) North twenty nine degrees and thirty minutes West thirteen chains to the place of beginning. Containing fifty acres strict measure ~ in as full and ample manner as the same was surveyed to the said Andrew Bell as by a return thereof dated the twentieth day of October 1813. Recorded in the Surveyor General’s Office at Perth Amboy in Book S16, page 251 will appear. Together with the privileges, hereditaments, and appurtenances to the above bargained premises belonging or in any wise appertaining, and all the estate, right, title, interest, claim, and demand whatsoever, either at law or in equity, of him the said Andrew Bell of, in or to the same and of, in, or to any and every part and parcel thereof. To have and to hold the above bargained premises with the appurtenances unto the said David Harvey and Britton Riddle, their heirs and assigns, to the only proper use, benefit, and behoof of the said David Harvey and Britton Riddle their heirs and assigns forever. And the said Andrew Bell, for himself and for his heirs, executors, and administrators doth hereby covenant and agree to and with the said David Harvey and Britton Riddle, their heirs and assigns, that he the said Andrew Bell is lawfully seized of the right of location on which the aforesaid tract of land was surveyed and returned and hath good right to grant and convey the same in manner aforesaid and the same right of location in the quiet and peaceable possession of the said David Harvey and Britton Riddle their heirs and assigns against the lawful claim and demand of all persons whatsoever he the said Andrew Bell will forever warrant and defend. In witness whereof the parties to these presents have interchangeable set their hands and seals the day and year first above written. Sealed and delivered in the ~ Andrew Bell (Seal) presence of Corlis Lloyd Be it remembered that on the eighteenth day of October in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and fourteen personally appeared before me, William Lloyd, one of the Judges of the Inferior Court of Common Pleas in and for the County of Monmouth, Andrew Bell, the grantor of the within instrument of writing named, and acknowledged that he signed, sealed, and delivered the same as his voluntary act and deed for the use and purposes therein mentioned.
