This Indenture made this thirty first day of August one thousand eight hundred and twenty seven between Alexander McGregor of the township of Shrewsbury, County of Monmouth, and the State of New Jersey, attorney of Samuel Harvey late of the said township, County, and State of the one part and Robert Shafto of the same place of the other part Witnesseth that whereas the said Samuel Harvey by his power of attorney, dated the fifth day of July One Thousand eight hundred and twenty six did authorize and impower the said Alexander McGregor to bargain for sale, alien, and transfer such real property as belonged to him in the said County and to grant deeds & Conveyances for the same at his discretion as fully & amply as he could do himself if personally present, as by reference to the said power of attorney will more fully appraise. This Indenture therefore Witnesseth that the said Alexander Mcgregor by virtue of the powers vested in him by the said power of attorney for and in Consideration of the sum of Thirty one dollars & eighty two cents to him in hand paid by the said Robert Shafto with which he declares himself contented satisfied & paid hath granted bargained and sold & by these presents doth grant bargain sell convey & confirm to the said Robert Shafto and to his heirs and assigns forever: All that tract lot or parcel of land situated in the township of Howell on the south side of the Shark river, lying on both sides of Sarah Greens brook. Beginning at the distance of seven chains and thirty six links on a course South forty one degrees East from where the road crosses the said Sarah Greens brook. Thence running (1) South forty three degrees East ten chains to a corner thence (2) South fifty three degrees West ten chains to a corner thence (3) South fifteen degrees thirty minutes East thirty six links to a pine tree thence (4) South eighty three degrees West twenty chains and thirty links to a corner thence (5) North seventy nine degrees West twenty chains & fifty links to a corner thence (6) North twenty two degrees West ten chains to a corner thence (7) North eighty six degrees thirty minutes East Forty chains and forty links to the place of Beginning, Containing fifty acres & twenty two hundredths of an acre strict measure excepting and reserving twenty nine acres and one hundredth lap’d on a survey of forty four acres & twenty three hundredths returned to James Parker on the eleventh day of February, one thousand seven hundred & ninety three recorded in Book S.9 page 307 which leaves twenty one acres & twenty one hundredths of an acre strict measure which is hereby declared to be the number of acres conveyed & intended to be conveyed by these presents to the said Robert Shafto. Together with all the privileges & advantages to the said tract of twenty one acres and twenty one hundredths belonging or in any wise appertaining To Have and to Hold the said tract of land with its appurtenances to the said Robert Shafto & to his heirs & assigns forever ~ And the said Alexander McGregor doth hereby for himself & for his heirs executors & administrators further covenant grant & agree to and with the said Robert Shafto his heirs and assigns that he himself hath not done unsuffered any act deed matter or thing to be done or committed whereby to encumber alter or change the right or title to the said property since the same came into his charge or possession but that the same is hereby conveyed to the said Robert Shafto & his aforesaids with as full absolute & ample a right & title as were vested in the said Samuel Harvey his heirs etc at any time or period whatsoever ~ In Witness Whereof the said Alexander McGregor hath hereto set his hand and seal the day and year first above written ~ Signed Sealed & delivered (The words “six in the preceding page) in the presence of (& the word “Shafto” in this page interlined) Thad B.Whitlock ( before signing & also the word “East” on) ( the margin of the preceding page) Alexander McGregor (Seal) New Jersey Monmouth County Be it remembered that on the fifteenth day of Sept A.D. one thousand eight hundred and twenty seven before me the subscriber one of the Commissioners for taking the Acknowledgments and proofs of deeds etc. in and for said County personally came and appeared Alexander McGregor the within named grantor, and I being satisfied he is the grantor of the within instrument and having made known to him the contents thereof ~ he did acknowledge that he Signed Sealed & delivered the same as his voluntary act & deed for the uses & purposes therein mentioned ~ done before me the day and year aforesaid ~ John B.
