From: New Jersey State Archives 185 West State Street, CN307 Trenton, NJ 08625-0307 Deed Book B-3, pages 131,132 Theophilus Longstreet et ux to Amos White, 14 March 1744/45 This Indenture made this fourteenth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and forty four Between Theophilus Longstreet of the Town of Shrewsbury in the County of Monmouth and Eastern Division of the Province of New Jersey, Yeoman, and Abigail his wife of the one part and Amos White of the Town and County Aforesaid, Yeoman, of the other part, Witnesseth that he the said Theophilus Longstreet for and in Consideration of the sum of Two Hundred and Two Pounds and Ten Shillings currant money at Eight Shillings the Ounce to him in hand already paid by the said Amos White, the receipt whereof the aforesaid Theophilus Longstreet doth hereby Acknowledge, And himself therewith to be fully Satisfied, Contented and paid, hath Granted, Bargained, and Sold, and by these Presents doth fully, freely, clearly and absolutely Grant, Bargain, and Sell, Alien, Enfeoff, Convey and Confirm unto him the said Amos White, his Heirs and Assigns forever All that Tract of Land Scituate, lying & being in the said Town at a place called Lock Arbor. Beginning at a Red Oak Sapling Marked on four Sides, being the South East Corner of Thomas Woolley's Land Eleven Chains from Potters Cellar on the South Side of Poplar Swamp brook, thence South Seventy eight Degrees West twenty one Chains and Eighty four links along the said Thomas Woolley's line , Thence South Seven Degrees and fifty five Minutes East to a Small white Oak Sapling marked on four sides Standing on the North Side (and partly over) of Hog Swamp brook, being the Northerly Branch of Whites or Drummonds Pond, Thence down the same as it goes to the line of John Drummond, Thence North and by West along said John Drummond's line forty two Chains & thirty four links to where it began, Containing Ninety four Acres and a half, Bounded Northerly and Westerly by said Thomas Woolley, Southerly by said Hog Swamp brook and Easterly by said John Drummond ( Except one quarter of an Acre of Land Joyning to Gawin Drummond's Saw Mill Dam on said Hog Swamp brook for the Repairing his said Dam with the Ground the Ponds Cover when it is full) which said tract of Land with more was conveyed to the said Theophilas Longstreet by a deed of Sale from the said Gawin Drummond bearing date the thirtieth day of January last past Together also with all Land and all Manner of Improvements , Trees, Woods, Waters, Runs, Springs, Profits, Commodities, Priviledges, Heritaments and Appurtenances to the same belonging or any ways Appurtaining, With all the Right, Estate, Title, Interest, property, Possession, Claim and Demand whatsoever of him the said Theophilus Longstreet both in Law and Equity and either of them afix or to the same and every part thereof. To have and to hold the above granted tract of Land as above bounded and Described with all and all the Priviledges and Appurtenances to the same of Right or Custom thereunto Belonging unto him the said Amos White his Heirs and Assigns and to his and their own proper use and uses, Benefit, Advantage, and Behoof forever. And he the said Theophilus Longstreet for himself his Heirs, Executors and Administrators and every of them Doth Covenant, Promise, Grant and Agree to and with him the said Amos White his Heirs and Assigns firmly by these Presents that he the said Theophilus Longstreet at the time of the Sealing and Delivery hereof hath in himself good sure Rightfull power and Absolute Lawfull Authority to Grant, Sell, Convey and Confirm the above Granted tract of Land as above Bounded and Described and every part thereof ( Except what is before Excepted) with the Appurtenances unto him the said Amos White his Heirs and Assigns forever. And that the same and every Part thereof now is and shall forever hereafter remain free and clear unto him the said Amos White his Heirs and Assigns from all former Gifts, Grants, Sales, Leases, Mortgages, Judgements, Executions, Attachments, Dowers, Thirds, Entails, or any other Trouble, Charge, Incumbrance in the title or possession thereof, Committed or done by him the said Theophilus Longstreet or by his desire, Knowledge, Means, Negligence or procurement so as to Alter, Change, Charge, Defeat, Limit, Determine or make void the above Bargain and Sale ( The Proprietors' quit rent if any be that shall hereafter become due only Excepted) And that the above Bargained tract of Land and every part thereof, except the above Exception, with the Appurtenances unto him the said Amos White his Heirs and Assigns in their quiet possession and Seizn in and to his and their own use & Benefit Against the just Right, Lawfull Claim, Challenge, or Demand of all Persons, shall warrant and forever hereafter defend by Virtue of the Presents, In witness whereof the party first above named to these Presents have hereunto set their hands and Seals the day and year first above written And in the 18th year of his Majesty King George the 2nd Reign 1744/45. Recorded 15 July 1765 John Terrill Jr. Reg: NOTE: 30 Mar 1996, The dates shown in this deed are by "old Style" calendar, when the New Year began March 25. The English Parliament passed a law in 1750 creating the "new Style" Gregorian Calendar with the New Year beginning January 1; thus this deed was signed in 1745 according to our present calendar. The "Whites or Drummond's Pond" referred to in the deed is now known as Deal Lake. Hog Swamp Brook is now known as Harvey Brook. Deal Lake is located between Deal, and Asbury Park, New Jersey.
