Polhemus Surrogate In the name of God Amen, I, Joseph R. Patterson of the Township of Howell, County of Monmouth, and State of New Jersey, being very weak in body but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be to God, calling into mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament that is to say, principally [?]. [*Note: The last word is illegible due to a black splotch on the original, it does not affect the reading of the Will] First of all, I give and recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God that gave it, and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in a decent and Christian like manner, at the discretion of my executor, nothing doubting. But of the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God and as touching such worldly estate, wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life; I give demise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form. First, I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Mary Patterson the farm on which I now live during her natural life, and after her decease, to belong to my son William I. Patterson. Item, I give and bequeath to my son Isaac Patterson the sum of two hundred dollars. Item, I give and bequeath to my grandson Joseph Patterson, son of my son Isaac, the sum of one hundred dollars, Which said legacies or sum of money I will and order that my son William I. Patterson do pay to my son Isaac the aforesaid sum of two hundred dollars within or at the expiration of one year after the death of my wife and also to pay to my grandson Joseph Patterson the aforesaid sum of one hundred dollars on his arriving to the age of twenty one years, In case my wife should be deceased, if not, within one year after her decease. Item, I also give and bequeath all my moveable property to my beloved wife Mary Patterson after paying out all the expenses of settling my said estate and paying all my just and lawful debts - And lastly, I do also constitute, make, and ordain my beloved wife Mary Patterson, my executrix and my beloved son William I.
