March Term 1780 a certificate was presented to the Court in the words, & figures following Viz: "Hardistown Sussex County the 10th March 1780 "This is to certify that Shadrack Hathaway Inlisted with Me during the war the 23 day of November in the year 1776 in the fourth Jersey Regt. Commanded by Coll. Ephraim Martin and Served as a Serjent in Said Regt. untill the 4th day of October in the year 1777 and then was wounded in the Battle of Germantown and died in four days after. "Noadiah Waid Capt." and also the following affidavit Morris County ss. Ezekiel Parkhurst personally appeared before Me this day and made oath that he was present when the Revd. Mr. Pepper Maried Martha Hathaway to the within Mentioned Shadrach Hathaway and that the Said Martha is now the widow of the above Shadrach Hatheway. Sworn before and further Saith not March 18 1780. Benjn. Hallsey, J. P. Ezekiel Parkhurst. The court having examined the foregoing certificate and affidavit adjudged that the Said Martha Hatheway is entitled to Receive the half pay of her Said Husband quarterly during her widowhood.
