(Bridgeton, N. J.) 1851-1884: June 30, 1860 June 30, 1860 A son of Mr. David Shimp of Quinton’s Bridge, about nine years of age was drowned on Friday afternoon of last week, under the following circumstances. He had lain down on the edge of the wharf and was reaching over into the water, amusing himself in catching minnows, when he lost his balance, fell into the creek, and was drowned before assistance arrived. Although diligent search was made, bis body was not recovered until Monday afternoon. We learn that he was an only son, and much esteemed in the neighborhood. With each return of the season we are admonished of the dangers attending deep water, not one passing lately without a sacrifice near us.
