This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: Charlotte Coats, coats@lawyer4u.com ======================================= Estate of Thomas Coats Know all men by these presents that we Samuel Wade and Joseph Ware and John Doe all of the County of Salem in the province of New Jersey are held and firmly bound unto Excellency William Cosby, Esq Captain General and Governor in Chief of the Province of New Jersey in the sum of fifty pounds, current lawful money of America to be paid to his excellency William Cosby his successors or assigns. To the which payment well and truly to be made, we do bind us and every of us our and every of our heirs, executors and administrators, jointly and severally firmly by these presence. Sealed with our seals, dated the Twenty eight day of January in the Seventh year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Second by the Grace of God, King of Great Britain 1733. The condition of this obligation is such that if the above bounden Samuel Wade administrator of all and singular the goods, chattels and credits of Thomas Coats late of Salem County, weaver, deceased do make or case to be made a true and perfect inventory of all and singular the goods, chattels and credits of the said deceased which have or shall come to the hands, possession or knowledge of the said Samuel Wade or into the hand of any other person or person for his use and he same so made exhibit or case to be exhibited in to the registry of the prerogative court in the secretary's office of the province of New Jersey at or before the tenth day of March next ensuing and the same goods chattel and credits of the said deceased at the time of his death or which at any time after shall come to the hands or possession of the said Samuel Wade or unto the Hand or possession of any other person or person for his use, do well and truly administer according to law, and further do make or case to be made a just and true account of his administration at or before the tenth day of December now next ensuing the date hereof; and all the rest and upon the said administration account the same being first examined and allowed of by the Judge for the time being of the said Prerogative Court, shall deliver and pay unto such person or person respectively as the said Judge for the time being of the said Court by his decree or sentence, pursuant to the true intent and meaning of an Act of Parliament made in the 22d and 23d years of the Reign of King Charles the Second, entitled 'An Act for Settling Intestates, Estates", shall limit and appoint. And if it shall hereafter appear, that any left Will and Testament was made by the said deceased; and the said executor or executors therein named do exhibit the same into the said prerogative Court, making request to have it allowed and approved accordingly, if the said Samuel Wade above bounden, being thereunto required, do render and deliver the said Letters of Administration (Approbation of such Testament being first had and made in the said Court) Then this obligation to be void none effect or else to remain in full force and verture. David Levetz three personally came and appeared before me Edamel Mestrayer Surrogate of the County of Salem duly comissioned....Samuel Wade administer of all and singular the goods chattel and credits of Thomas Coate late of Alloways Creek in the County a Weaver (?) who being one of the people called Quakers (?) affirming that the within writing contains a true and perfect inventory of all and singular of goods and chattels and credits of the deceased so far forth as hath comete this...affirmants being possession of knowledge or to (?) possession of knowledge of any other person or persons (?) Mestrayer Surrogate ________________________________________ Be it remembered that on the day and year above written personally came and appeared before me Daniel Mestayer the officer above named Joseph Ware, one of the appraisers to the within inventory subscribed also being of the People called Quakers on his Solemn affirmation according to same doth declare affirm that the goods chattels and credits in the within inventory set down and specify by him appraised in all things according to their true respective rates and values after best of his judgment and understanding that at the same time also Hugh Clifton the other appraiser was present and in all things consented to making thereof and that they appraised all things of same to their view for appraisal. Joseph Ware Affirmed coramme, Dan Mestrayer Surrogate __________________________ Be it remember that on this twenty eighth day of January anno dom one thousand seven hundred and thirty three, personally came and affirmed before me Daniel Mestayer, Surrogate of the County of Salem July commissioned Samuel Wade, Adm of all and Singular the goods chattels and credits of Thomas Coats late of Salem County a weaver deceased who being of the people called Quakers on his solemn affirmation according to (?) doth declare and affirm that Thomas Coats died without a will as far as he knows and believes and of the will well truly administer all and singular the goods chattels and credits of the said deceased so far forth as shall come to his hands and possession or knowledge or to the hands or possession of or knowledge of any other person or persons for his use and that he will make an exhibit a true and perfect inventory of all singular the goods chattels and credits of the deceased also render a just account when (?)
