June 25, 1891 While Trying to Save the Lives of Others, A Hero's Death. Elderon, N. J., June 24. -- Frederick Brokawa, the eldest son of Isaac Brokawa, was drowned here this afternoon while trying to rescue Annie Doyle, the dressing maid of Mrs. Simon Hess, also of New York. The girl was drowned. Young Brokawa's parents upon the beach and witnessed their son's heroic death. Three servant girls while bathing got beyond their depth, and young Brokawa and his friend, D. Ferris, of Philadelphia, went to their rescue. Mr. Ferris nearly lost his life also, and his recovery is doubtful. All of the party, except Miss Doyle and young Brokawa, had been gotten into a surf boat, but he boat upset and all had a second hard struggle for life.
