Jeffreys of Elisabeth Town in the county of Essex and Eastern Division of the Province of New Jersey cordwainer do send greeting whereas Mary King formerly the widow of Samuel Scot late of Elisabeth Town in the county of Essex and Eastern Division of the Province of New Jersey deceased but now the wife of John King of the same place wintness [sp] in the name and on the part and behalf and for the only and proper use benefit and behoof of Elisabeth Scot daughter of the said deceased Samuel Scot and to the heirs of her body lawfully to be begotten and through deficiency thereof the said Elisabeth Scot happening to die before marriage and otherwise without issue of her body lawfully to be begotten as aforesaid that then and in such case in the name and on the part and behalf and for the only and proper use benefit and behoof of the said Mary King and the heirs of her body doth covenant and agree purchase and buy of one the sd Caleb Jeffreys a part of a one first lot of Elisabeth Town right here after more particularly and expressly mentioned and declared now know ye therefore that I the said Caleb Jeffreys for and in consideration of the sum of ten pounds current money of the above sd Province to me in hand paid by the said Mary King on the part and behalf of the sd Elisabeth Scot at and before the ensealing and delivery hereof the receipt whereof (to my full content and satisfaction) I do hereby acknowledge and thereof and of and from every part and parcell thereof I do fully and clearly acquit exonerate and discharge her the sd Elisabeth Scot her heirs executors administrators and assigns and every of them under the considerations above stipulated maintained and reserved by these presents have granted bargained aliened transported and sold and by these presents do grant bargain alien transport and sell unto the said Elisabeth Scot her heirs and assigns for ever (and to every of them as aforesd excepted) an Elisabeth Town right for twenty three acres of land to be taken up and surveyed by the sd Elisabeth Scot her heirs or assigns (or any of them as aforesd excepted) in the right of me the sd Caleb Jeffreys in any part of the lands of Elisabeth Town purchase aforesaid where no particular person or persons do hold or justly claim the same only by force and vertue of license purchase and grant under the Honourable Richard Nicholls Esqr formerly Governour of this Province and the Province of New York (which sd right I the sd Caleb Jeffreys purchased of Daniel Dehart of the same Elisabeth Town yeoman to me my heirs and assigns forever the which said right was allowed to sd Daniel Dehart in the year of our Lord 1695 by the associates and holders of sd Elisabeth Town purchase as in and by conveyances relation being there unto had ma[smudged] and doth more fully and at large appear to have and to hold the sd right for twenty three acres of land unto her the sd Elisabeth Scot her heirs and assigns (or any of them as aforesd excepted) forever in as full and ample manner to all intents and purpose as I the sd Caleb Jeffreys my heirs and assigns may or can hold and enjoy the same by force and vertue of the sd Daniel Dehart’s conveyance and also by the right of purchase and grant under the said Richard Nicholls Governour as aforesd and I the sd Caleb Jeffreys for my self my heirs executors and administrators do covenant promise and agree to and with the sd Elisabeth Scot her heirs and assigns (and every of them as a [smudge]) reserved by the presents in manner and form following (that is to say) that I the sd Caleb Jeffreys of and immediately before the ensealing and delivery of these presents am as truly and realy the sole and lawfull owner of the sd hereby granted right to the sd twenty three acres of land as many others of the freeholders and associates of the lands of Elisabeth Town aforesd do hold their several and respective lands only by force and vertue of purchase and grant under the sd General Richard Nicholls Governour as aforesd and that I the sd Caleb Jeffreys and my heirs the aforesd right for twenty three acres of land here by granted and in such manner as above sd unto the sd Elisabeth Scot her heirs and assigns against me and my heirs and against every other person and persons justly and lawfully claiming the same hereby granted right only by vertue of the above sd Daniel Dehart as aforesd or me or my heirs shall and will warrant and forever defend by vertue of the presents in witness whereof I the sd Caleb Jeffreys have hereunto set my hand and seal this tenth day of
