BOND Father of Fire Chief Is Found Dead of Heart Attack Robert A. Bond, 83 years old, father of Fire Chief Walter J. Bond, died yesterday at his home, 1800 Morris avenue. He was long active in political circles and was one of the town-ship's best known citizens. He served as fire chief in 1910, being succeeded by his son at that time. He was the oldest career member of the Union Republican Club. Mr. Bond, who was found dead in bed by his son, Walter, was born September 5, 1855, in Rockville Center, L. I. He lived in Union Township 45 years. Mr. Bond was employed by the Elizabethtown Water Co. 42 years and helped build the firm's present pumping station in Union. He was active up until the time of his death as chief engineer of the station. Mr. Bond served on the Union Township Board of Education from 1910 until 1923. He at one time was Overseer of the poor, serving six years. He was a member of Union Lodge of Elks, United Order of the Golden Cross, Washington Camp, P. O. S. of A.; Winfield Scott Council Jr., O. U. A. N.; Workmen of the World, and Long Island Founders. Besides his son, Mr. Bond leaves a daughter, Mrs. George Carpenter of Union; two sisters, Mrs. Louis Driscoll and Mrs. Anna Sammons, both of Long Island; a brother, Seamon Bond of Long Island, and four grandchildren, Police Sergeant Harold A. Bond, Ernest P. Bond, Miss Romona Carpenter and Miss Ella Carpenter, all of Union. Elks funeral service will be held at 8 P. M. tomorrow in Jordan's Funeral Home, Vaux Hall road and Pine avenue. Masonic services will follow. Burial will be in Greenfield Cemetery, Hempstead, L. I. Mayor Blertuemufel, Township Clerk Friberger and other township officials joined in expressing regret at his passing. Additional Comments: Robert A. Bond was my 2nd great-grandfather. He was born September 05, 1855 in Rockville Center, Long Island, New York the son of Walter J. Bond and Louisa Jackson. Some corrections and additions: his son was not chief of the fire department until the 1920's. Robert, Walter and a few other men started the regular fire department in Union Township. His sister Clara was married to Lewis Driscoll. Anna was also called Annie. Romona's name should be spelled Ramona. Robert's wife had passed away some years before, she was Lillian Mundell.
