Carkhuff The home of Mrs William J Lied at 15 Cherry street was crowded yesterday afternoon at funeral services for Mrs Lied's mother, Mrs Mary Adelaide Carkhuff, who died Saturday. Relatives, many friends in Elizabeth and Linden, and associates in W.C.T.U. and church work were among those in attendance. Mrs Carkhuff was the wife of Lorenzo W Carkhuff Sr, of 127 Murray street. Members of the Carkhuff Adult Bible Class of the Linden Methodist Episcopal Church, which Mr Carkhuff taught many years, attended in a body. Mr and Mrs Carkhuff celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary last January 3. Rev Harold N Smith, pastor of St James Methodist Episcopal Church, officiated, assisted by Rev George M Mueller Th.D., pastor of the Linden church. Flowers, which filled the rooms, included pieces from Esther Rebekah Lodge 2, I.O.O.F.; Star of Linden Council 97, D of A; Trinity Choir of Rahway; Emmaus Chapter 183 O.E.S.; Willard Branch W.C.T.U. of Elizabeth; Currie Branch W.C.T.U. of Linden; Joseph Scott Chapter, Ladies of the GAR; Carkhuff Adult Bible Class, Linden; Elizabeth Council 10 S and D of L; Bible Class of Trinity Church, Rahway; Louis Schlesinger Institution, Newark; Rahway Men's Glee Club; a blanket of flowers inscribed "Mother"; a spray, "Grandma"; a floral pillow, "Wife"; a spray from neighbors and many others from relatives and friends. During the service, the male quartet from the Linden church sand "Abide with Me" and "Shall We Meet at the River?" Members of Star of Linden Council 97 D of A, wearing white uniforms with blue and red caps, acted as an escort to Evergreen Cemetery, where the casket, draped with an American flag, was placed in the family vault. The police escort was Motorcycle Patrolman James Coakley. Bearers were William and Edgar Lied, Frank and Orris Miska, Kim Caudill and Earl Carkhuff. Rev Mr Smith and Rev Mr Mueller conducted the commital services, after which Star of Linden Council conducted a ritual service.
