Kidd, 78, was native of Elizabeth. John H. Kidd, one of the oldest residents and a member of the oldest families in Elizabeth, died last night at the home of his daughter, Mrs James E. Henry, 147 Second Street. His seven daughters and one son, who had been called to be with him during his illness of about a week, were with him at the end. He was 78 years old. Mr Kidd lived in the downtown section of the city all his life. He was a staunch Republican, although he never held public office. For 49 years Mr Kidd was foreman of the pig iron docks of the Central Railroad of New Jersey. He served through the days when the old Red Jacket was burned, the Kill von Kull was sunk, and the Chancellor operated between New York and Elizabeth. He retired 10 years ago. Mr Kidd was born at First and Fulton streets, his parents being John H. Sr. and Cecilia Marie Kidd. After his marriage he lived at 126 Bond street. Following the death of his wife 12 years ago, he broke up housekeeping and had been living with one of his daughters, Mrs George Edmondson in New York City, until last November, when he moved back to Elizabeth. When Elizabeth Lodge, No. 116, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, was organized, Mr Kidd became a charter member. He was also a member of Elizabeth Court, Independent Order of Foresters. His father was one of the founders of the Fulton Street Methodist Church and he was a member of it. His daughters are: Mrs James Henry, Mrs George Farron [sic] and Mrs Catherine Barry of this city; Mrs E. Crely [sic] of Philadelphia; Mrs S Tyson of Port Washington, Long Island; Mrs William Froat of Garwood; and Mrs George Edmondson of New York City. His son is John H. Kidd III of New York City. There are 40 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held from the home of Mrs James E. Henry at 2:30 o'clock Monday afternoon and interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Delegations from Elizabeth Lodge 116 Independent Order of Oddfellows and Elizabeth Court Independent Order of Foresters will attend the funeral. submitter's note: his mother's name was Siche Maria (Booraem) Kidd, not Cecelia.
