Leavenworth, ex-Secretary of State of New York and a former Congressman from New York, died at her residence here at the Marlborough Hotel shortly after midnight this morning. The shock of a fall in the hotel six weeks ago, which resulted in Mrs Leavenworth fracturing her hip, was directly the cause of her death. She had lived here eleven years. Mrs Leavenworth was the daughter of Richard Townley, and was born in Elizabeth, NJ, Dec 14, 1822. She married Alex M.W. Ball of Elizabeth, who was a member of the New Jersey Legislature in the sixties. Four years after his death, in 1882, Mrs Ball married Mr Leavenworth. A son, David A Ball of New York, and a daughter Mrs Maria B Wolff of Bonn, Germany, survive. They were at the bedside when death came. Mrs Leavenworth's gifts to Yale University, Hamilton College, and Syracuse University will be remembered.
