MRS. EMILY E. HORNBLOWER WILLIAMSON, who died on July 13, 1909, was the wife of Benjamin Williamson, the eldest son of the late Chancellor Benjamin Williamson and grandson of the late Governor Williamson of New Jersey. She was the daughter of Erastus F. and Emily N. Read Hornblower. In 1885 she founded the State Charities Aid and Prison Reform Association. In 1899 she was elected president of the State Federation of Women's Clubs. In 1902 she was appointed Probation Officer of Union County by Judge Vail, an office she held unitl the time of her death. She was a director of the Federation of Women's Clubs, a member of the National Board of Charities and Correction, a member of the State Board of Children's Guardians, a member of the State Charities Aid Assocaition, a member of the Woman's Advisory Committee of the University of New York, secretary of the Institution for the Feeble-minded at Vineland, N. J., member of the Sorosis, of New York, a member of the Monday Club, of Elizabeth, secretary of the Home for Aged Women, President of the Day Nursery Association (now Egenolf Day Nursery), and president of the first conference of Charities and Corrections. She was identified from its beginning with the New Jersey Review of Charities and Corrections. She was appointed by President Roosevelt to be a delegate to the Congress of the International Prison Assocation at Budapest, and at the time made an extensive tour of Eurape, inspecting prisons. She was active in bringing about the establishment of the State Reformatory at Rahway. She was also well known for her magazine work. She became a contributing member of this Society on May 19, 1887.
