Mt Vernon was born Febuary 29,1841.In Warren Co N.J.; is son of CONRAD MAJOR AND ELIZABETH MAJOR.He came to Oakland,Oakland Co,MI in 1855, and engaged in farming:in 1869,he bought 110 acres in Sec 18 in Washington,Macomb County; besides the management of his farmhe is engaged ------ extent in buying cattle,sheep, and hogs for theDetroit and Eastern Market.He was married Dec 31,1862 to LANAH V. COLE of Oakland: she was born October 1842 and is daughter of CHRISTIAN & SARAH COLE, her parents were born in Warren Co NJ, Mr and Mrs MAJOR have four children FRANK R.born June 6,186-,SADIE E.March 27,1866; MELVIN D.Nov 10,1868;JOHN M. March 3,1871.Mr MAJOR was a Democrat, His farm is finely situated, in the near vicinity of the post office and villiage of Mt.Vernon.in Washington Township. The Late JOHN S.MAJOR The death of JOHN S.MAJOR at his home in Mt.Vernon,Saturday, Apr.7, marks the passing of one of the best known men in this section.A man of sound judgement.he was considered a firstclass aithority on live stock in fact the buying and selling of stock had been his life work. He was a whole souled,gential man who counted his friends by the score, who learn of his death with regret. Mr.MAJOR was born in Oxford N.J.in 1841, being 69 yrs old at the time of his death.He came to Mt.Vernon with his parents when 14 yrs of age. Seven years ago he was stricken with poralysis, but made a partial recovery, so that he was able to attend to business.His last illness covered a duration of 13wks.Heleaves a wife and four children, FRANK R,of My Vernon,MELVIN D.,of Romeo, JOHN M,of Fowlerville, and Mrs FRED NORTON of Mt Vernon; one brother GEORGE of Mt Vernon, and two sisters,Mrs.S.SILVERTHORNE of Rochester, and Mrs SARAH SMITH of Bellvidere,N.J.Funeral services were from the MT.Vernon Baptist church Tuesday,April 12, Rev W.N.FERRIS of Milford, assisted by Pastor WRIGHT of Rochester officiating.Interment was made in Mt Vernon Cemetery.
