All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/nm/bernalillo/bernalillo.htm *********************************************************** AUTO FOR THE DISTRIBUTION OF ARMS AFTER THE PUEBLO REVOLT OF 1680 GUADALUPE DEL PASO 1681 Otermin Papers, Library of Congress University of New Mexico, University of California Archivo General de Mexico, Seccion de Historia In this plaza de armas Nuestra Seņora de Guadalupe del Paso, on the 4th day of the month of November, 1681, Antonio de Otermin, governor and captain-general of this kingdom and the provinces of New Mexico and its presidio for his Majesty, said: That in view of is Majesty's orders to the effect that there be distributed one hundred carbines which were brought from the armory of the court of Mexico to arm the settlers who might have most need of them in order that the said distribution may be made as commanded. I order by thin auto that after they are delivered to the persons who whom they may be given, each one who takes a carbine shall proceed to sign in acknowledgement of having received it, and the secretary of Government and war, Francisco Xavier shall certify in the case of those who do not know how to sign. I so provided, ordered, and signed, before said secretary, Antonio De Otermin, by order of his lordship. 1. On said day, month and year, there was delivered to Joseph de Madrid one of the regular carbines belonging to his Majesty, needing no repairs. He did not sign as he does not know how. 2. Joseph Lopez was issued a carbine and he signed with the secretary, Francisco Xavier. 3. Francisco Pacheco, issued a carbine belonging to his Majesty and he did not sign, as he did not know how. 4. Pedro Varela de Losada, issued on of his Majesty's carbines and he did not sign as, he did not know how. 5. Luis Martin Serrano, issued another said carbine and he did not sign, as he did not know how. 6. Joseph de Padilla, issued a carbine belonging to his Majesty and he left his harquebus to be repaired; and so that it may be recorded he signed it before me, Francisco Xavier. 7. Juan Griego, issued a carbine belonging to his Majesty and he left an harquebus, also belonging to his Majesty, which had been given to him previously, to be repaired. Whereupon, the distribution of the said carbines was completed, eighty-five having been given out, and fifteen remained.
