HAROLD HURD.

  Harold Hurd. Born Boston, Mass., 1872, Dec. 17th, son of Charles H. and Julia
Edwards Hurd of Charlestown, Mass. Boston Latin School and private schools. Then
to University of State of N. Y.; thence to Columbia Law School (has "L L B"),
graduated 1896. In Spanish war in naval battalion, 1898 (April to September).
One of first bodies of men to enlist for war. One of North Atlantic patrol and
ordered to report to Admiral Sampson in Cuban waters. Took part in bombardment
Santiago next A. M., after arrival there June 2nd. Also participated with his
ship "The Yankee" in numerous engagements and cutting-out expeditions.
Afterwards in March, 1899, came to New Mexico, sheep ranching in Pecos valley
some time (over 2 years), then organized Roswell Wool & Hide Co. in 1904. In
1910 organized N. M. Wool & Hide Co at Hagerman; is president both companies.
Appointed Receiver Land Office in 1907 assuming office April, 1907. Still
filling same.
