  CLOVIS. Pop 5,000. Curry county. First settled in 1907, incorporated as a city
in 1909. The county seat on the A T & S F Ry 108 miles n e of Roswell. Has
Baptist, Catholic, Episcopal, Methodist, Presbyterian and Dunkard churches, * 3
banks, several hotels, an opera house with a seating capacity of 5 60, an ice
plant with a daily capacity of 125 tons, good graded schools, a well equipped
fire department, municipal water and electric light works, a sewerage system
costing $125,000, machine and car shops of the A T & & S F Ry, a railroad club
of 450 members, modern passenger and freight depots. Two weekly newspapers the
Journal and the News are published. Clovis is the commercial center of the
Panhandle and famous Pecos Valley. Farming is the principal industry. Exp W F &
