Pop 5,000. Curry county. First settled in 1907, incorporated as a city in 1909. The county seat on the A T & S F Ry 108 miles n e of Roswell. Has Baptist, Catholic, Episcopal, Methodist, Presbyterian and Dunkard churches, * 3 banks, several hotels, an opera house with a seating capacity of 5 60, an ice plant with a daily capacity of 125 tons, good graded schools, a well equipped fire department, municipal water and electric light works, a sewerage system costing $125,000, machine and car shops of the A T & & S F Ry, a railroad club of 450 members, modern passenger and freight depots.
