Submitted By: Richard Wilkinson jrrrr@zianet.com ************************************************************ EDDY COUNTY, NEW MEXICO WILLIAM H. HARROUN CEMETERY RECORDS Records extracted by Richard Wilkinson Typing by Richard Wilkinson June 2001 Submittal by Richard Wilkinson June 2001 Sitting atop a small hill in the middle of his dream is the final resting place of a man that created his future. From his resting place he has a panoramic view of his entire farm. He faces his home and the Guadalupe Mountains. What a shame that some uncaring degenerate person found it fun to burn his lovely home to the ground a few year ago. The stone atop his hilly grave reads only this: WILLIAM H. HARROUN 1867 - 1938 This farm is now owned by the City of Carlsbad, NM. The burial site is sitting at about 3038 feet above sea leavel at the following coordinates: 32 deg. 14 min. 52 sec. North 104 deg. 00 min. 36 sec. West. Harold McDonald, now an elderly rancher himself, worked and lived on the Harroun Farm. In 1938 Harold and others created a road to the top of the hill so his remains could be taken up and laid to rest. William Harroun had two hunting dogs that were put down and buried on each side of their master. On his farm, located in Southeast Eddy County near the community of Malaga, William Harroun built an elaberate irrigation system, homes for his employees, a school, and a general store. Many of these building are still standing today.
