Submitted By: Richard Wilkinson jrrrr@zianet.com ************************************************************ QUEEN, EDDY COUNTY, NEW MEXICO QUEEN CEMETERY RECORDS Records extracted by Richard Wilkinson Typing by Richard Wilkinson Dec 1999 Submittal by Richard Wilkinson Dec 1999 The Queen Cemetery is located in the Guadalupe Mountains of the Lincoln National Forrest. This is a remote, mountainous area that is in southern Eddy County, New Mexico. To get to this cemetery, begin on Highway 285 at the Carlsbad, NM north City Limits and go 12.1 miles to the Queen Highway intersection (highway 137) and turn Left (south). Continue on for 35.7 miles up into the mountains and turn right on Christian Camp Road (County Road 411). The cemetery is just down this dirt road to the left. The road to and through this area was once a stage coach route to El Paso, TX. There use to be a stage stop in this area known as the Queen Stage Stop. The stage would stop here to rest the horses from the climb up the mountain and either rest the horses or change teams for the steep climb down into Dog Canyon and through the El Paso Gap. All that remains of this stage stop is a tall rock chimney. The people that ran this stopping off point were M.J. and E.G. Queen. They are buried in the Queen Cemetery. As with any old cemetery, there are several unmarked graves here. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that most of the sites did have stones. Many were literally stones with carvings on them. The following are not in any particular order. In memory of the unknown and..... Perry, Gary Dean Dec23, 1935 to Aug 1, 1993 Queen, M.J. Dec 6, 1845 to Jan 28, 1922 Queen, E.G.
