  ARTESIA. Pop 2 700. Eddy county. An incorporated town on the A T & S F Ry 33
miles n w of Carlsbad the county seat and 42 miles s of Roswell. Has Baptist,
Catholic, Christian, Methodist, Nazarene and Presbyterian churches, 2 banks, 3
hotels, a canning factory, 2 ice plants, an alfalfa mill, a public library, a
commercial club, an electric light plant and municipal water works. Two weekly
newspapers the Advocate and the Pecos Valley News are published. Fruit growing
