Obituaries

CORTEZ
Services are scheduled for December 9, at Our Lady of Grace
Catholic Church in Artesia, for Mary Granado Cortez of
1012 N. Fourth Street.  Cortez, 72, died on December 6 at
Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas.  Interment will
follow at Woodbine Cemetery in Artesia.  She was born on 
January 22, 1927, in Presidio, Texas, to Cipriano Granado and
Consuelo (DeLao) Granado.  She married Daniel O. Cortez on
September 3, 1949, in Artesia.  She is survived by her husband,
Daniel O. Cortez of the family home; sons Danny Cortez of
Lubbock, Tex., Robert Cortez of Artesia and Freddy Cortez of
Albuquerque, NM; daughters Rose Mary Cardenas of Lubbock and
Sylvia Lopez of Jal, NM; brothers Salvador Granado and Jose
Granado, both of Artesia; sisters Pascuela Granado of Artesia and
Belen Marquez and Maggie Montoy, both of Espanola, NM; eight
grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.  She was preceded
in death by her parents and brothers Frank Granado and Saturnino
Acosta.
