Submitted by: patti pennington ************************************************************ The following excerpts were taken from page 14 - The Artesia (NM) Daily Press - December 26, 1999 Obituaries LANDRETH No services are scheduled for former Artesia resident Ezell Landreth of Carlsbad, NM. Landreth, 80, died on December 20 at Lakeview Christian Home in Carlsbad. Cremation has taken place. Landreth was born on January 31, 1919, to Charles Calloway Landreth and Viola Grace Wallace Landreth (later Horton) in Centrahoma, Okla. He was a Choctaw Indian and attended Indian boarding schools at Antlers and Ardmore, Okla. He married Vera Alice Hallum on October 7, 1937. He served in the US Navy during WWII. He taught and was a superintendent of schools in Cloud Chief, Frances and Fitzhugh, Oklahoma. He began teaching in Artesia in 1959. He is survived by sons David H. Landreth and Raymond Landreth, both of Carlsbad, and Vernon E. Landreth of Norman, Okla.; brother John Landreth of Carlsbad; sisters Patricia Marine of Catoosa, Okla., Johnola Rowe of Rocky Mountain, Virginia, Sabra Ann Landreth and Mahanna Jo Landreth; nine granchildren; and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1991; daughter Betty Lou Landreth in 1998; and sisters Alla Viola Bradford and Linda Stockman.
