Submitted by: patti pennington ************************************************************ The following excerpts were taken from page 14 - The Artesia (NM) Daily Press - January 16, 2000 BRAY (*See note at end of this posting) Graveside funeral services were January 14 at Mount Olive Cemetery for former Artesia resident Freeman Harrison Bray of Healdton, Oklahoma. Bray, 88, died on January 11 in an Ardmore, Okla., hospital. He was born on March 11, 1911, in Healdton, the son of Joe Franklin and Marietta Mame Bray. He married Catherine Reeves on May 28, 1934, in Healdton. He owned and operated F.H. Bray Trucking and House Moving and later Bray's Grocery and Meat Market. They moved to Artesia where he owned and operated Cosdon Service Station. They moved back to Healdton in 1975. He was a member of the Ratliff City Church of Christ, was a charter member of the Moose Lodge in Artesia and was a member of the Odd Fellow Lodge (I.O.O.F.) in Healdton and Artesia. Survivors include sons Richard Franklin Bray and Tomie Eugene Bray, both of Healdton, and Jimmy Jay Bray of Carthage, Texas; daughter Carolyn Kay Ford of Tacoma, Wash.; sister Wanda Garrett of Tussy, Okla.; brother J.D. Bray of Healdton; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Catherine, in 1996; son Ernest Bray in 1999; brothers, Otto, Orvil and Cameron Bray; and sister Jimmie Upshaw. *(Mr. Bray's granddaughter contacted me with a correction to the above information. Freeman Harrison Bray's mother was Mary Etta McCarley Bray, and her nickname was Mammie. The name Mammie was also used on census records.)
