Submitted by: patti pennington ************************************************************ The following excerpts were taken from page 14 - The Artesia (NM) Daily Press - January 16, 2000 HORNBAKER Funeral Services were January 14 at Bright Funeral Home in Silver City, NM for former Artesia resident H. Wayne Hornbaker. Hornbaker, 87, died on January 11 at Gila Regional Medical Center. Interment followed at Fort Bayard National Cemetery with military honors. He was born on April 5, 1912, in Clifton, Colo., to Walter Raymond Hornbaker and Mary Olive Emmert Hornbaker. His family moved to a farm in Artesia in 1917. He married Patricia Ann Cristy on December 5, 1947, in Albuquerque, NM. He joined the Army in 1942. He served for four years at Fort Bliss, Texas, and later in the Pacific Theater as a staff artist on Army newspapers. After their marriage, he and his wife moved to the family farm in Artesia for seven years. He taught biology and physics. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.
