Pelton, 82, on January 10 at Hillcrest Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Sunset Gardens Memorial Park with honors by the Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard. He died January 6 at Landsun Health Service Center. Denton-Funchess Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He was born December 2, 1917, in Oilton, Okla., to Charles J. and Edith Stout Pelton. He grew up in Kansas, living in Eldorado, Ford County and Rice County on a farm. On August 28, 1944, he married Helen M. Hall in Hutchinson, Kansas. He had served in the Army during WWII. In 1948, he and his wife moved to Carlsbad. He was a member of the VFW Bryan Mudget Post and the DAV. He was a lifetime member of BPOE 1558. He retired as a captain in the Civil Air Patrol. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a brother, Clyde Pelton. Survivors include his wife, Helen Pelton of Carlsbad; son, Larry E. Pelton of Cherokee Village, Ark.; brother, Elmer L. Pelton of Wichita, Kan.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. (Photo shown of Pelton)
