She died February 7 at her home. Cremation has taken place. Denton-Funchess Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. She was born April 10, 1906, in Sulphur, Okla., to Robert and Sophia Hodges Lowrance. She married J.T. Stephens Sr. in Sulphur in the early 1920's. In 1929, they moved to Carlsbad where they homesteaded south of town where the Flying X is located. She was a member of First Baptist Church. In 1959, she moved to Roswell, NM. She was preceded in death by her husband on July 11, 1981; a son, Luther Stephens in 1998; two brothers; and two sisters. Survivors include sons, J.T. Stephens Jr. of Carlsbad and Stephen C. Stephens of Albuquerque, NM; daughters, Dorothy Virden of Gardnerville, Nev., Mary L. Scholle of LaPlace, La., Kathryn Rumbaugh and Pat Bush of Roswell; sister, Virginia Tyler of Montrose, Colo.; 14 grandchildren; 19 great- grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
