Stueland, 79, today at Carlsbad Cemetery. He died January 16 at his home. Denton- Funchess Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He was born June 5, 1920, in Stony Run Township near Clarkfield, Minn., to Hans J. and Minnie Mickelson Stueland. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. In 1939, he graduated from high school. He inlisted in the Air Force serving in WWII as a nose gunner of a B-24 Liberator in the South Pacific. He married Norma Nelson in 1945. Following an honorable discharge from the service, he attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis, Minn. He and his wife moved to Carlsbad in 1985 after living in Moline, Ill., and Dubuque, Iowa, designing and testing John Deere tractors for 37 years. While living in Dubuque, he was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1986; sister, Ruby Oxtra; and five brothers, Arthur, Clifford, Harold, Reuben, and Richard. Survivors include a brother, Earl of Rural Granite, Minn.; and sister, Evelyn Kruger of Minnesota.
