M. May 15, 2013 Gallup, New Mexico-Shots were fired Tuesday near the Sunset Cemetery when a retired Gallup police officer, who works for Rollie Mortuary, came upon suspicious persons. According to a Gallup police report, Chris Mazon was in the storage area of the cemetery about 1:30 p.m. when he observed a black car in a field near the business. Officials at the cemetery have reported a series of thefts of vases and markers at the cemetery. Mazon headed to the car to tell them they shouldn't be in the area. When the driver saw him he sped off east in the direction of Gallup. Mazon said he was following in a company SUV when the passenger in the vehicle leaned out of the vehicle and fired two shots in his direction. Mazon told police he continued following the vehicle as it sped through several stop signs at a high speed until he lost sight of the vehicle on County Road 1. McKinley County Sheriff's deputies later found the vehicle abandoned.
