Mabel Dodge Luhan was a wealthy socialite and patron of the arts who came to 
Taos in 1916 and remained the rest of her life. She had a great impact on 
cultural life in Taos and helped establish Taos' international fame as an art 
community. She was an author of several books on Taos life, a philanthropist, 
and an entertainer of numerous artists and authors, including D.H. Lawrence.
