Dec 15, 1949 Final Rites for Burgess Services were held at Hanlon Funeral Home yesterday for Wescott Howard Burgess, 53, veteran of World War I, who died here Friday afternoon. Capt. M.A. Spotts officiated, the services being in charge of the American Legion. Burial was in Sierra Vista Cemetery. Burgess, a native of Cambridge, Mass., was a descendant of an early colonial family, which settled in Cape Cod in 1600. The Burgesses, prominent in New England history, are said to have been progenitors of the Roosevelt family. The deceased had made his home in New Mexico for the past 25 years, where he was favorably know in state art circles. Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Margaret Campbell, of Boston, Mass., Mrs. A.A. King of Cambridge, Mass., and Mrs. H.G. Davis of Buffalo, NY. Mrs. King and Mrs. Davis were here for the funeral.
