All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/nm/valencia/valencia.htm *********************************************************** BIOGRAPHY OF JESUS MARIA LUNA From Leading Facts of New Mexico History By Ralph Emerson Twitchell JESUS MARIA LUNA, clerk of the county court of Valencia County and a resident of Los Lunas, was born March 16, 1874 in Bosque, New Mexico. He was the son of Jose Andres Patrocinio Abelino Antonio Luna and Maria Ramona Luna. His father was a descendant of an early Spanish family and one of the pioneer stockman and ranchers of Valencia County. Jesus Maria was educated in the Jesuit College at Las Vegas, New Mexico which he attended to the age of twelve, after which he assisted his father on the ranch for three years. He then became a messenger in the New Mexico territorial senate and later he entered the employ of Louis Huning, a general merchant of Los Lunas, under whose direction he received his training along commercial lines. He became associated with the Los Lunas Mercantile Company, with which he identified for five years, when he turned his attention to stock raising and ranching at Bosque, continuing business there on his own account until 1900. In 1903 he was elected county clerk and in January 1904, assumed the duties of that office. Jesus Maria was married, November 28, 1896 to Miss Aurelia Romero, daughter of Jose Placido Romero and Felicita Salazar. They had five children, Gilbert C. born, July 28, 1898; Emma born January 28, 1903; Mabel born December 20, 1907; Edward, born June 25, 1910; Solomon, January 17, 1914.
