Shoup was born March 6, 1938, to Oscar L. Miles and Jessie J. Bender Miles in Bergoo, W. Va. She graduated from high school in Widen, W. Va. In 1959, she married Robert "Bob" Shoup. He was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. Born in Montecello, N.M., on Aug. 3, 1917, to Sylveria Lucero and Anastacio Jacquez; raised in Colorado where he met and married Nellie Aranda in 1937. The family moved to Belen in 1959 where he was re-assigned by the Santa Fe Railroad where he worked until retiring in 1976 at the age of 60. Jose was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, where he served as sacrestan, Eucharistic minister, usher and lector and sang in the Spanish Choir. He also helped Father Dan in the census of the old cemetery. He and Nellie served as the Padrinos for the Christmas Santo Niħo. He also served as the coordinator of the burning of the devil for Our Lady of Belen Fiestas. He was a fourth-degree Knight of the Belen Knights of Columbus. He was an avid fisherman and Santa Claus for his children; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. Jose is preceded in death by his son, John Jacquez; daughters, Anna Lee Griego and Patricia Louise Jacques; and nine of his siblings. He was employed by Par Electric as a journeyman lineman and belonged to the International Brotherhood of Electric Workers Union Local 611. His passion was riding his Harley and he never missed an opportunity to go on a bike run. Eli was a well-known pit bull breeder and always knew the whereabouts of all his puppies in New Mexico and even in Arizona. He was a happy-go-lucky individual who was full of energy and his enthusiasm touched everyone around him. At the time of his death, Eli was working in Phoenix, Ariz. He was also an involved parent, grandparent, and friend. He was preceded in death by his son, Patrick Garcia. Pauline was born on Sept. 1, 1945, at St. Francis Hospital in Carlsbad to Helen Louise Waggoner Ray and Paul Glenwood Ray. Her birth occurred while her father was serving in the Army fighting during the last stages of World War II. Her mother and sister were living with her grandparents, Thomas and Lavada Waggoner, during that time. The family moved to Belen following the war, where Pauline grew up. Both of her parents and many family members worked for the Santa Fe Railroad. She attended the Belen schools and graduated from Belen High School at mid-term of 1963. During her growing up years, she spent many happy times with her Ray and Waggoner grandparents and with many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. Also, during these years, Pauline participated in Brownies and Girl Scouts; First Methodist Church choir; took dancing and piano lessons and performed in recitals; and was an active member of Rainbow Girls serving in most offices through Worthy Advisor. Upon that mid-term graduation from high school, Pauline became employed at the First National Bank of Belen. While growing up on Campana Drive, her neighbor, friend and playmate was Carl Lee Sparks. They have been together since they were 5 years old. They fell in love and were married on June 19, 1964, at the First Methodist Church in Belen. Their first son, Tracy Lee, was born on Oct. 22, 1965, and their second son, Thomas Ray, was born on Sept. 7, 1969, both in Belen. Sometime later, the family relocated to Clovis, where Carl worked for the railroad and Pauline continued her career in banking. She worked her way up from teller to loan officer and branch manager. She worked for Albuquerque National, then Sunwest Bank, then Bank of America. She is remembered as being conscientious, detail-natured, very diplomatic, patient and kind. She possessed special multi-task abilities on her job. Pauline was a favorite teller to many regular banking customers. Her passion was her family. Pauline was always available to her boys and actively supported them in their various school activities as they grew up in Clovis. These included Little League baseball and football. She adored her three Scottie dogs, Jock, Katy and Sassy. She enjoyed mountain vacations and fishing. Pauline was preceded in death by her father on Aug. 4, 1989. She was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. While living in Belen years ago, Doris was active as a volunteer nurse's aide with the Belen Hospital. She was an avid bridge player, coin collector, and a well-known artist who specialized in oils. She was a beautician and owned her own beauty shop in Massachusetts. Doris and her late husband, William, were fervent supporters of the Dogs for the Deaf Foundation. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and will be dearly missed by all, her family said. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 43 years, Lt. Col. William F. Perry in 1994. He was born on April 2, 1928, to Arley E. and Esther E. Blevins of Crosby, Texas. The family moved to Grants in 1942, where they operated a lumber and sawmill business for many years. Ollie wore many hats during his adult life. He was a Baptist minister and bi-vocational missionary to Native Americans and others for 49 years in Arizona and New Mexico. He earned his master's degree from Northern Arizona University of Flagstaff and taught school for 12 years. He worked in the family lumber business at Grants until his retirement in 1996. Ollie was a member of the First Baptist Church in Grants for many years and served as deacon and missionary. For the past three and half years, he was a member of the First Baptist Church in Los Lunas where he also served as deacon, teacher, and supply preacher. In addition, Ollie participated in 25 overseas volunteer church-planting missions to the Philippines, India, Africa, Korea, Japan, and Wales. He was preceded in death by his parents, A.E. and Esther Blevins of Grants; four grandchildren, Suzanne Morgan, Robert Miller, Rochelle Miller, Baby Airhart; one son-in-law, James Walters; and a niece, Evelyn Fjord. He served in the Army National Guard, had been employed by the City of Grants Police Department in the K-9 unit for eight years, and spent the last eight years in the K-9 department for the New Mexico State Police. Lloyd was actively involved in coaching children's little league, football, baseball, and loved to hunt and fish. He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend, and he will be truly missed. He was a member of the San Antonio Catholic Church of Abeytas. Albino retired from the Bureau of Reclamation after 25 years of outstanding service. He also worked for the National Weather Service and the U.S. Geological Survey. He was a well-known businessman, owning and operating the Bernardo Store, which was founded by his father, Alvino Salas in 1933. Albino's love for farming and ranching led him to have a small herd of cattle; all of which were named and all came running when they were called. His gardening skills were well known in the family and his zucchini grew big and sometimes too big. He shared his bounty of his garden with everyone. "His gradchildren were the apple of his eye and he never missed an opportunity to dance with them or load them up with goodies from his store. He will be dearly missed, because he touched all of our hearts dearly," his family wrote. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elvira Baca; father, Alvino Salas; brother, Santa Cruz; and sister, Crucita Ortega. Lillie was a resident of Truth or Consequences for more than 40 years (1947- 1989), where she was well known as a seamstress, homemaker and a member of the Baptist church. She moved to Reserve in 1989, where she was an avid quilter and member of the Senior Citizens Center. Lillie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Cloyd Lee "Slick" Mustian in 1963; two brothers, Vernon and Tom Waldrop; and one sister, Talma Atwood. Rosita was an avid gardener and was well known for her hand-tied ristras that hung every harvest all around her home and porch. She was everybody's friend and never knew a stranger. She was a graduate of Indiana University as a Kappa Alpha Theta and an active member of the organization in Albuquerque for several years. She was involved in the development of the Hunter and Jumper Association in New Mexico. While living in Scottsdale, Ariz., she became very knowledgeable in computers, setting up programs for several companies. She was on the building committee for the Mountain View Presbyterian Church in Scottsdale and served as recording secretary for many years. Unfortunately, Jane's life changed in 1992 due to Alzheimer's making its appearance known. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Diane Hartman, and her late husband, Cleo S. Maddox in 1949. She is survived by her devoted husband of 51 years, Merlin C. Helen Brande Perry was born Aug. 17, 1921, in Greensboro, N.C., to William L. and Julia Sutton Brande. She was raised and educated in North Carolina. She met Elbert D. Perry and they were married on Aug. 14, 1943, in Florence, S.C. They moved to the Southwest in the early 1950s. They moved to Carlsbad on June 1, 1971, from Belen, where Helen had been employed by the Valencia County News-Bulletin. She was employed as a salesperson by J.C. Penney for 10 years before her retirement. She loved to garden and was a very active member of the Blodgett Baptist Church in Carlsbad. Helen was preceded in death by her husband on Dec. 4, 1997. She is survived by her sons, John Michael Perry and Mark David Perry, both of Carlsbad; her daughter, Penny Perry Lloyd of Charlotte, N.C.; her brothers, Louie, Robert, Clarence and Charles Brande, all of Greensboro, N.C., and Ralph Brande of Arlington, Va.; her sisters, Margaret Brande Smith of Greensboro and Betty Moore of Danville, Va.; and three grandchildren. He was a well-known area businessman, owning and operating Art's Little Wheels Auto Sales for more than 16 years. Art proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. Maria was born on August 8, 1930, in La Joya to the late Balta and Bennie (Cordova) Griego. She married Rodney Helms on Aug. 30, 1952, in La Joya. Maria's life passion was dedicated to the education of children. She was a teacher in the Kimberly School District for more than 34 years and after her retirement, she substituted in the Kaukauna and Appleton School Districts. Maria was a member of the Wisconsin Education Association (WEA was a Pink Lady Volunteer at Appleton Medical Center; volunteered as a Spanish language interpreter; was a member of the State of Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction-Advisory Committee for the Wisconsin Reading Comprehension Test (WRCT) since its inception. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, shopping and especially the time spent with her family. She adored her grandchildren. Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Rodney; her daughter, Patti Vandeburgt and husband, Dennis, of Neenah, Wis.; her daughter, Geri Wang and husband, Patrick, of Fond du Lac, Wis.; her son, Dave Helms (and Ellen Weber) of Appleton; her grandchildren, Angie, Jennifer, Kim and Abby VanderBurgt and Rachel Helms; her brother, Rey Griego and wife, Barbara of Albuquerque; her sisters, Eva Sanchez and husband Milton, of Belen, Edwina Abeyta and husband, Marcel, of La JoyaBeatrice Lopez of Albuquerque, and Fidelma Romero and husband, Robert, of Albuquerque; and her sister-in-law, Idabel Andraschko of Kimberly, Wis.; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her dog, Tiffany.
