His father, Wilson MC CLURE, crossed the plains in 1850 and settled in California, where he became one of the first fruit growers on the Pacific coast. The deceased was one of a family of eight brothers and one sister. He was born in Joliet, Illinois, in 1846. "Barney" MC CLURE's education was gained in the frontier schools of California and at St. Mary's College in Oakland. After following various mercantile pursuits in California he became timber agent for the Central Pacific Railroad Co. at Cisco and as such agent was in charge of the delivery of material used in the construction of the first snowsheds after the Central Pacific and Union Pacific railroads were connected at Promentory point in Utah. Mr. MC CLURE's career with the railroads included service as Central Pacific agent in Reno in 1872, as chief clerk in the freight office of the V & T in Virginia City, agent for the Carson-Colorado in Hawthorne, and as cashier and accountant for the Lake Tahoe Railroad and Transportation Company from 1910 until 1918. Before going to Virginia City he was teller in D. A. Bender Bank of Reno, now the Washoe County Bank. In 1885 he was appointed cashier in the Carson mint. Later, he was employed by the Carson Lumber and Fluming Company, which was then supplying wood and timber for the Comstock mines, and its successor the Sierra Nevada Wood and Lumber Co., until 1910. Since retiring in 1918 Mr. MC CLURE has made his home in Berkley, though he and Mrs. MC CLURE had spent much of their time at the home of their daughter, Mrs. E. D. BOYLE. He had previously been affiliated with a Reno Masonic Lodge. He was laid to rest in the Masonic section of Mountain View cemetery in Reno. The sympathy of the community is extended to the sorrowing family.
