ST. THOMAS MEMORIAL CEMETERY Overton, Nevada St. Thomas was settled by Mormon Pioneers in January of 1865. Although abandoned by most of the settlers in 1871, Daniel Bonelli and his family remained. For a brief period of time, St. Thomas was the County Seat for Pah Ute County, Arizona until the official survey was concluded and it was determined that St. Thomas, as well as the remaining lands of the" Muddy" and "Virgin" Rivers, were in Lincoln County, Nevada. This area was part of what was later to become Clark County in 1909. The Federal Government planned construction of "Boulder Dam" beginning in 1932, which directly affected the settlements of St. Thomas and Rioville. The soon to be Lake Mead would cover the towns with water forever. The cemetery in St. Thomas was relocated in 1935 to an area in Overton and referred to as "Mead Lake Cemetery" for a brief period until it was formally dedicated St. Thomas Memorial Cemetery. This cemetery is in excellent condition and well maintained by the community. It is located on a hill at the south end of Overton off SR 169. This survey was conducted on January 30, 2001 by Patricia A. Scott and is added to as interments occur. Information contained in parens "()" is not on the headstone. It is added by the author from records to assist in research. Some headstones have only years and when known from records, the complete dates have been included. Below is the dedication plaque. PIONEERS Dedicated to those stalwart pioneers who forged an oasis out of the desert sands. The St. Thomas Cemetery was established in the 1860's in the town of St. Thomas, Nevada. Anticipating inundation of the town by the waters of Lake Mead, the graves were moved to this point in 1935. Only past residents of the buried towns of St. Thomas and Kaolin and their descendants are buried here. What sorrow fills the hearts of us Who know we cannot now return To walk the shady streets of long ago.
