E. ARNOLD DIES Prominent Las Vegas Man Succumbs After Operation in Los Angeles Died ARNOLD: - At the California Hospital in Los Angeles, Cal., Friday, September 7, 1923, William Edward Arnold, aged 43 years, 5 months and 25 days. The death of City Commissioner Arnold comes as a shock to the community. For some years he had been suffering from an obscure ailment for which he underwent an operation at the Mayo Hospital at Rochester, Minn. followed by several trips back to that institution for treatment. Five weeks ago his condition became so serious that he was taken to the California Hospital, Los Angeles, for treatment. His condition did not materially improve although the best of skill was employed on the case. Yesterday morning an operation was undertaken from which the patient could not rally and death came to end his sufferings at 3:30 p.m. William Edward Arnold was born in Lindsburg, Kansas, March 13, 1880. Eighteen years ago he came to Las Vegas and has since been a prominent figure in this city. He married Mary Elizabeth Robison, who was at his bedside when death came. Beside his widow, the surviving relatives are one daughter, Celia; two sons, William and Edward; his mother, Mrs. George Mullen, of this city, and a twin brother, Charles, who resides at Hamilton, California. His other brother, Theodore, died about eight years ago at Gridley, Cal. Yesterday morning Celia received a message from her mother telling of the operation and asking her to come to her father's bedside. She prepared to go and was already on the train which was about to start when she received the message telling of her father's death. The remains will be brought to Las Vegas by Mrs. Arnold, to arrive Sunday morning. Interment will be in Woodlawn cemetery. The funeral services will be conducted under the auspices of the Elks and Eagles lodges, of which Mr. Arnold was long an active member.
