BROWN, formerly of Searchlight, Nev. The funeral was held Saturday morning at the Roman Catholic Church in San Diego. The deceased leaves a widow and one son, Edgar, aged about seventeen, surviving. "Tom" BROWN, as he was affectionately called by the hundreds of warm friends who came to him during his years on the desert, possessed those rare qualities which bound men to him in lifelong ties. For years he was agent for the Santa Fe road at Flagstaff, Arizona, and when the California & Eastern road was building from Goffs to Ivanpah he started a store at Barnwell with Arthur WOODS. When Searchlight was in the limelight Tom BROWN became associated with E. S. GOSNEY, a Flagstaff, Ariz., banker, in the firm of Brown, Gosney & Co., which established large, general merchandise stores at Barnwell, Searchlight, Ivanpah and Hart. His popularity among the men of the desert is attested by the fact that he was elected county commissioner of the new County of Clark in 1910 by the largest vote ever cast in the county for a candidate. On account of failing health, Mr. BROWN retired from active business about two years ago, selling his business in Searchlight to B. Frank MILLER. He removed with his family to La Mesa, California, where he has been peacefully awaiting the end with the same patience and courage which characterized his life in this section. We but re-echo the prayer of many when we say "Peace to his ashes."
