He was born Aug. 28, 1923, to Martin Allen Bunker Jr. and Ethel Frehner Bunker, in Las Vegas. He grew up in St. Thomas and Alamo, graduating from Pahranagat Valley High School, where he enjoyed a successful athletic career and the friendship of great schoolmates. In 1942, he moved to Las Vegas for employment; and in 1944, married his high school girlfriend, Lila Stewart Bunker (deceased Dec. 25, 2010). Bruce is survived by his five children, Paula (Joseph) Platt of Mission Viejo, Calif., Dennis (Susan) Bunker of Las Vegas, Jeff Bunker of Salt Lake City, Utah, Jill (Michael) Wright of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., and Linsey (Ken) Schmidt of Henderson; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Bruce lived and Nevada worked in southern until 1979. Always a true cowboy, he followed the professional circuit successfully for many years with his brother, Martin, and found time to help Paul and Leo Stewart work their cattle operation in central Nevada. He raised and trained horses and worked on several ranches after retiring from the Clark County Sanitation Department. He moved to Parowan, Utah, in 1989 and raised and trained horses until his passing. Bruce is survived by his two brothers and one sister, Gerald (Dorothy), of Idaho, Martin (Sheila), of Logan, Utah, and Janet (Robert) Ashworth of Las Vegas; and many extended family members. Viewing will be noon-1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, with funeral services following, both at the LDS Red Coach, 4042 N. Rainbow Blvd., in Las Vegas. In lieu of flowers, please consider the General Missionary Fund or the Perpetual Education Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
