The wounded girl was taken to the Las Vegas hospital where she was in a critical condition for a day or two. The bullet from a .38 calibre Colt's revolver had entered her body on the left side just below the diaphram, passing through the stomach and out through the back. That it did not prove fatal is very fortunate. It seems that the would be murderer had been here for ten days or two weeks and was enamoured of the woman. The night before the shooting, according to the testimony brought out at the coroners inquest, he had been drunk and threatened the life of the girl. At that time his gun was taken from him by one of the women and handed to the bartender. The day of the tragedy about 11 o'clock the gun was returned to CASTELLANO, who was still drinking. He almost at once sought out the woman, shot her through the body, then turned the gun on himself, the first shot going through his heart and the second through his left arm. Coroner LILLIS empaneled a jury consisting of W. R. ENGLISH, foreman, F. J. PIERCE, Frank A. WAIT, R. N. EDWARDS, C. W. PERRY and J. M. QUIGGLE. After hearing the testimony of Al. JAMES, proprietor of the Arizona Club, James Webber HAYES, piono player, Fred DAVIDSON, the bartender and Sheriff Sam GAY a verdict of suicide was returned. CASTELLANO was from Salt Lake and was a member of the Moose lodge. His relatives gave orders to have the body interred here. His victim is doing well and her recovery is expected.
