The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. http://www.usgwarchives.net ************************************************************************ LAS VEGAS AGE 11/18/1916 MEETS DEATH UNDER CARS COVERTO CHAVEZ KILLED IN VEGAS RAILROAD YARDS EARLY FRIDAY MORNING About 5:45 Friday morning, November 18, the dead body of Coverto CHAVEZ of Arden was found lying between the rails in the railroad yard in this city. L. W. HIPPENSTEEL made the gruesome discovery. The body was identified by Thomas CONTRERAS, who testified at the inquest to having come from Arden with the deceased the evening before and to having seen him alive the last time near the Overland hotel about 11:30. The coroner's jury composed of E. W. GRIFFITH, foreman, Tom CASEY, A. R. ANDERSON, W. J. ROCKOFF, Jack MC LAUGHLIN and W. N. SCHUYLER, rendered a verfict that deceased came to his death presumably by being struck by a car. The father of the deceased lives at Colton, Cal., and word from him is being awaited as to the disposition of the remains.
