He was 82. Earl was born Jan. 16, 1922, to former Clark County Commissioner Ira J. Earl and Ada Lovisa Leavitt. He was a grandson of Southern Nevada pioneer Joseph I. Earl. He graduated from Las Vegas High School. During World War II, Earl was a pilot in the U.S. Marine Corps and fought in the Pacific battles. He had attained the rank of captain before he left active duty in 1946. He joined the Marine Corps Reserves and was promoted to the rank of major before he retired. Following the war, Earl attended Brigham Young University where he received a bachelors degree. He earned his law degree from George Washington University in 1950, and set up a private practice in Las Vegas. Earl also was a partner with his mother and other family members in the Bridger Hotel. By the 1970s he was devoting most of his time to real estate development. Earl was involved in the Las Vegas Jaycees as a young man and was a member of the Elks Lodge. He was a lifetime member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Earl was preceded in death by his father and mother; and two brothers, Jack and Don. He is survived by a brother, Harold; a sister, Connie Mae Stephens, both of Las Vegas; and 13 nieces and nephews. Viewing will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 24, at Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North, followed by services at 9:30 a.m., at the mortuary. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
