FIFE PASSES AWAY FORMER RESIDENT OF VEGAS DIES SUDDENLY AT HIS HOLLYWOOD HOME Colonel W. J. FIFE died at his home in Hollywood last Sunday after an illness of less than 24 hours. Apparently in the best of health, he was stricken with apoplexy Saturday afternoon at two o'clock and slowly sank to the end. Colonel FIFE was a resident of Vegas for a time immediately following its opening in 1905, and built the FIFE building on the corner of First and Carson streets. While here, Col. and Mrs. FIFE made many friends who sincerely regret the sad end. During the Spanish war Colonel FIFE saw service in the Phillipine Islands, as Lieutenant-colonel of the first Washington Volunteers. On the journey to the Islands he was in command of the transports Valencia and Senator. Besides the widow, he is survived by his mother, a daughter, two sons and a brother.
