HALE, Jr., aged 31 years, of influenza pneumonia. The remains were brought to Las Vegas for preparation, and shipped to the old family home in Salt Lake City, on the evening of November 20. Mr. and Mrs. Fred A. HALE, Sr., who had been called to the bedside of their son before his death accompanied the remains. Many Las Vegas people gathered at the depot to bid a silent farewell to their old friend on his journey to his last rest. The passing of Fred A. HALE, Jr. brings deep grief to many hearts. In his death Goodsprings loses one whose place can never be filled. Clark county loses an upright citizen, public spirited, generous, tireless in every good work. The mining fraternity loses a man of wide knowledge, brilliant mind and safe, calm judgment. He stood high as a mining engineer, and his work as General Manager of the Yellow Pine Mining Company will stand as a monument to his genius. He was the kindly friend of all, helpful alike with his counsel and assistance to every man who sought him. Considerate of others, congenial and pleasant in his associations, he endeared himself to many hearts. We loved and respected him, and words fail to express the sympathy we feel for the widow, Elizabeth Critchlow HALE, who so nearly crossed the Great Divide with her husband; for the three beautiful children, Mary Elizabeth, Jessica Westfall and Margery Ann; for the father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Fred A. HALE, Sr. and for the brother, Girard V. B. HALE, who is in France with the Foreign Legion. Death sought its shining mark and we can only bow our heads in sorrowful submission to that inscrutable Providence whose ways are beyond our understanding. Friend of my heart, I wave thee fond farewell While thy frail bark is crossing o'er the bar Where moan the billows of the endless deep; And as my tear dimmed eyes their vigil keep Upon thy passing soul, now fading {illegible} I see thee turn and signal back "All's Well".
