F. BARTINE of Carson City, Nevada, candidate for the Democratic nomination for Congress. He had been suffering with an affection of the heart, but it was thought that he was improving and plans were made to remove him to his home. He suffered a relapse, however, and passed into the beyond. Judge BARTINE was born in New York City in 1848, and enlisted in the Civil War when but 15 years old. He has been a resident of Nevada since 1869 and served as one of our representatives in Congress from 1888 to 1892. He left the Republican fold in 1896, when that party adopted the gold standard, and became an ardent supporter of silver, campaigning for a time with William Jennings BRYAN. He had served as chief commissioner and chairman of the Nevada Railroad Commission since 1907, when the commission was created. He is survived by two daughters who reside in Carson City. The judge was a gentleman, gracious and eloquent, had friends in every part of the state who will feel his death to be a personal loss.
