MATTENSON has received the news of the death of her father, R. D. TARPLEY on April 1 at Oklahoma City. Mr. TARPLEY was born in Missouri in 1836 and spent his boyhood in Illinois. He enlisted for service in the Civil War in April, 1861 in Company "I", 96th Regiment, Illinois Volunteers and was wounded at the battle of Atlanta. After his wound healed, he returned to his regiment and served to the end of the war. He was the father of seven children, four of whom with their mother, are left to mourn his passing. He was a devout member of the Adventist church, a good citizen and neighbor. The many friends of Dr. MATTENSON sympathize with her in her bereavement.
